Signed Copy of Good Living Street by Tim Bonyhady

Signed Copy of Colonial Earth by Tim Bodyhady

In 1900 Vienna was one of the most exciting places to live in the world. Its glamorous high society was the envy of Europe, and it was the centre of an exploding arts movement that set the tone for the following century. Tim Bonyhady's great-grandparents were leading patrons of the arts in fin de sile Vienna: Gustav Klimt painted his great-grandmother's portrait, and the family knew many of Vienna's leading cultural figures. In Good Living Street he follows the lives of three generations of women in his family in an intimate account of fraught relationships, romance, and business highs and lows. They enjoyed a lifestyle of luxury and privilege-until everything changed for families of Jewish origin like his.

Tim Bodyhady is a Professor at the ANU College of Law. He is one of Australia’s foremost environmental lawyers and cultural historians and has generously provided a signed copy of this book, his own cultural history.

The Colonial Earth (Winner of the NSW Premier's History Prize Winner of the Queensland Premier's History Prize) challenges the widespread belief that Australia's colonial settlers despised their environment and were blind to their own destructiveness. Tim Bonyhady reveals that many colonists not only delighted in their new surroundings but also wanted to preserve them. Our first environmental laws were proclaimed as early as 1788. Many of our most important 'modern' environmental concerns-such as preserving endangered species, protecting forests, maintaining public rights over the foreshore and even the threat of climate change-already loomed large for Australia's first European settlers.

Denmark Morning Mist by Roger Beale

Trial Instructional Flight with Goulburn and Canberra Aviation

flight.jpg

Drawing on the works of the 18th and 19th century European romantics, Roger Beale’s Denmark Morning Mist exudes an introspective, meditative quality. The atmospheric mood of the morning is clearly articulated. Dramatic and beautiful, Denmark Morning Mist clearly speaks of the beauty that lies behind the phenomena of the natural world.

The work itself is pastel on coloured paper and is conservation framed. Roger Beale AO is a Canberra based artist and was previously known in public life as an economist, policy advisor and consultant. He has painted for over 50 years and now paints full time.

Ever dreamt of piloting a plane?

This is an opportunity to go up in a light aircraft with a flying instructor. On this flight the instructor will introduce you to the controls and allow you to fly the aircraft. Along the way, you will gain an understanding of what is involved in flying and you can even use this flight as the first step along the route to getting your pilots licence. Anyone with even the slightest interest in flying will find the experience immensely rewarding and enjoyable. There’s no obligation to continue training after your Trial Instructional Flight.
